Protection Relay Testing – Egbin Power Plant, Lagos, Nigeria
Client: Collective Power Limited / PCIS-Gh
Scope: Functional Testing of Protection Relays at 1,320MW Thermal Power Station
Egbin Power Plant, located in Lagos, Nigeria, is the largest thermal power plant in West Africa, with a total installed capacity of 1,320 MW. Safe Circuit Consult Limited was proud to be selected by Collective Power Limited and PCIS-Gh to conduct protection system testing and relay verification at this nationally strategic facility.
Our engineers performed comprehensive functional tests and fault simulations on critical protective devices. These included testing backup overcurrent protection, transformer differential protection, and busbar schemes. Using advanced diagnostic tools, we verified protection logic coordination, time-current characteristics, and communication integrity across various protection zones.
Our contribution ensured the reliability of the plant’s protection architecture, essential for operational continuity and national energy stability. This project demonstrated our competency in large-scale utility power systems and high-reliability grid environments.
